Duties and Responsibilities
- Administrative Duties:
- Arranging for hospital admissions and lab services.
- Entering/updating patient records.
- Completing insurance and billing forms.
- Scheduling appointments with patients.
- Processing authorization requests for specialty care.
- Interviewing patients during intake.
- Clinical Duties:
- Assisting physicians during patient exams.
- Changing patient dressings, removing sutures.
- Drawing blood, collecting lab specimens, and taking patient vitals.
- Educating patients on medical treatments and therapies
- Preparing and administering medical therapies
- Preparing patients for examinations
Medical Assistant Program Overview
At Montes HealthCare College, we offer cross-training in both administrative and clinical duties to our aspiring medical professionals. Our Medical Assistant Program is catered around your needs as a student and designed to meet specific objectives.
Program Objectives
Upon completing this program, you will possess the knowledge and skills needed for a successful transition into an entry-level medical assistant (MA) job. During your course, you will receive training in both front and back-office practices that can be used in clinics, hospitals, and physician offices.
Class Schedule and Structure
MHCC offers our Medical Assistant Program in two class schedules and in different teaching methods to accommodate those preferring a more focused, accelerated training program and also those preferring to maintain a stronger work, life, and academic balance.
After successfully completing your medical assistant courses, you will receive a Certificate of Completion, and you will be eligible to sit for the National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) exam offered by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Taking this exam is optional but it is highly recommended since successful completion of this test will grant you national certification as a medical assistant.

Our in-person Medical Assistant class is taught 100% in-person and is held Monday through Thursday from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. This class takes approximately 6-months to complete. | Our hybrid Medical Assistant class is taught with a combination of in-person hands-on training and virtual lecture conducted via a video chat platform. Two days per week are in-person and three days per week are online. The class is held Monday through Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and takes approximately 8-months to complete. |
